Role Overview

Perform tasks such as maintaining electrical systems, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities

• Safe maintenance and repair of equipment and machines to ensure availability and reliability
• Ensure engineering technical compliance
• Conduct inspections and work according to Mine Standards, Procedures, and the Mine Health and Safety Act
• Record inspections, maintenance, and repairs on checklists and job cards
• Identify faults and repair defects without supervision
• Maintain good housekeeping in the area of responsibility
• Meet planning and productivity requirements safely
• Perform Risk Assessments (RA) to ensure safe execution of tasks
• Be willing to work shifts, overtime, and standby duties

Minimum Requirements

Internal Candidates

• Recognized Electrical Trade Test Certificate
• Grade 12 with:
  • Mathematics (not Mathematical Literacy)
  • Science (minimum E symbol)
  • Plus two relevant N2 trade-related subjects as per MQA guideline (four N2 subjects advantageous)

External Candidates

• Recognized Electrical Trade Test Certificate
• Grade 12 with:
  • Mathematics (not Mathematical Literacy)
  • Science (minimum E symbol)
  • Plus four relevant N2 trade-related subjects as per MQA guideline

Additional Requirements (All Candidates)

• Sound knowledge of MHSA, safety systems, regulations, and standards
• Gas Testing and Flame Proofing certifications
• Excellent safety track record
• Proficient use and understanding of equipment and tools
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Fluent in English (speak, read, and write)
• Ability to work under pressure and show initiative
• Strong teamwork and feedback skills
• Valid K53 driver’s license with own transport
• In possession of or able to obtain a valid Certificate of Fitness

Advantageous Qualifications and Experience

• Experience in underground coal mining
• Minimum 2 years post-trade experience as an Electrician
• HT Switching Certificate
• Experience with:
  • Gate End Box, Genwest/Dimako
  • HT Reticulation drawings
  • Guduza, Peflo, and Microload systems
  • PLCs, water pumps, and jet fans
• Completed Safety & Risk Management Course
