Fraser Alexander is seeking a qualified and experienced Fitter to join our team in Mpumalanga. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical equipment including crushers, gearboxes, pumps, and general plant machinery.
Key Responsibilities
Health, Safety, Environment & Quality (SHEQ)
• Adhere to safety protocols and wear correct PPE at all times
• Participate in pre-shift safety meetings
• Report unsafe conditions and behaviors promptly
• Follow Fraser Alexander and client-specific SHEQ procedures
• Consistently display safe behavior on-site
Maintenance and Fabrication
• Implement and follow preventative maintenance schedules
• Repair and maintain all mechanical equipment on-site
• Conduct regular inspections on key mechanical systems
• Identify and prioritize equipment needing repair or replacement
• Plan downtime activities for maintenance and repairs
• Arrange necessary materials and manpower
• Perform risk assessments and follow proper repair procedures
• Fabricate general steelwork as required
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
• Grade 12 or N3 with Mechanical Engineering subjects
• Trade-Tested Fitter – MQA or MERSETA preferred
Experience
• Minimum 3 years’ post-trade experience as a Fitter
• At least 2 years’ learnership/apprenticeship experience in mining or construction
• Exposure to the maintenance of general plant equipment
Skills & Competencies
• Strong verbal communication
• Ability to recognize unsafe conditions and behaviors
• Understanding of planned maintenance procedures
• Basic mechanical planning and risk assessment skills
• Hands-on mechanical engineering experience
• Valid driver’s license
• Knowledge of PPE ordering and control
