Job Advert Summary:
Bidvest Tank Terminals (BTT) is currently looking for a reliable and hands-on Artisan Assistant to join the Maintenance Department based in Richards Bay. This permanent position is ideal for a motivated individual who is passionate about engineering and looking to grow their skills in a highly specialized petrochemical environment.
Purpose of the Role:
The primary function of this role is to support Artisans by assisting in routine maintenance, inspections, and handling minor mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation tasks that do not require the expertise of a qualified Artisan.
Minimum Requirements:
• Grade 12 / Matric
• N3 Certificate in Mechanical Engineering
• Minimum 2 years of engineering experience in a petrochemical or similar industrial environment
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assist Artisans during equipment breakdowns and scheduled preventative maintenance tasks
• Contribute to the effective execution of a comprehensive maintenance program to maximize equipment uptime
• Conduct periodic inspections on equipment and machinery to identify issues early
• Support project work and installations when required
• Maintain proper housekeeping and adhere to all health and safety standards in the work area
• Tag and return all equipment removed for repairs to Stores as per procedure
• Ensure all tools and maintenance equipment are clean, well-kept, and in good working condition
• Complete all preventative maintenance checklists and maintain accurate records
• Safely operate basic mechanical and electrical tools under supervision
• Assist in the removal and installation of minor equipment and fittings
• Dispose of waste materials responsibly and in line with environmental policies
