Cadet Firefighter Skills Program – Apply Now (City of Cape Town)

Eligibility Criteria & Requirements

To qualify for this Firefighter Training Program, applicants must:

• Be 18 years or older

• Have a Grade 12 certificate (Mathematics & Physical Science preferred)

• Be physically and medically fit

• Have no criminal record

• Not suffer from claustrophobia (fear of confined spaces) or acrophobia (fear of heights)

• Be a resident within the City of Cape Town Municipal Area

Physical & Fitness Tests (Mandatory for Shortlisted Candidates)

Applicants must pass the following:

• Reach test: 1.9 meters

• 2.4 km run:

• Males: 11 minutes

• Females: 13 minutes

• Strength Tests:

• Push-ups: 30 in 60 seconds

• Sit-ups: 30 in 60 seconds

• Deadload Carry: 2 x 25kg drums over 100m

Additional Requirements

• Pass a City of Cape Town medical evaluation

• Undergo a criminal background check

• Pass a drug test at a City testing center

• Pass claustrophobia & acrophobia tests

Special Conditions

• This is a non-permanent training program. There is no guarantee of permanent employment after completion.

• Only unemployed candidates will be considered.

• Selected candidates must wear a uniform and protective gear.
