About Ivanplats and the Platreef Project

Ivanplats is advancing the development of the Platreef Project in Limpopo Province. The project is focused on the development of a major mineral deposit containing palladium, rhodium, nickel, copper and gold.

The project is designed around modern, mechanised underground mining operations and the deployment of advanced mining technology. As a result, effective supply chain, warehouse and stores management will be essential to ensuring that equipment, components, materials and other supplies are available when required.

The Storeman will contribute to these operations by ensuring that incoming deliveries are accurately received, inspected, recorded and stored.

Minimum Qualifications and Skills

Candidates interested in the Ivanplats Storeman vacancy must meet the minimum qualification and skills requirements outlined for the position.

Applicants should have:

  • Grade 12.
  • A valid driver’s licence.
  • Basic mathematics and recording abilities.
  • Intermediate-level MS Office skills.
  • A valid Forklift Operator’s Certificate – D.
  • The ability to provide excellent service delivery.
  • Excellent organisational skills.

These requirements indicate that the ideal candidate should be comfortable working with stock, documentation, quantities, deliveries and warehouse records.

Strong organisational and communication skills will also be important because the Storeman will interact with procurement personnel, suppliers, transporters and other employees involved in the receiving and distribution of materials.

Required Work Experience

Applicants must have relevant practical experience in stores, warehousing or a similar environment.

The minimum experience requirements include:

  • At least 2 years’ related experience in a similar role.
  • Experience working in a warehouse or stores environment, preferably within the mining industry.

Candidates with previous experience handling mining-related materials, equipment, components and deliveries may be well suited to the position.

Experience in a busy industrial or mining environment can be particularly valuable because stores personnel must maintain accurate records while ensuring that materials are received and handled safely.

Key Responsibilities of the Storeman

The successful candidate will be responsible for a range of receiving, inspection, recording and warehouse management activities.

One of the key responsibilities will be liaising with procurement personnel to identify and prepare for expected deliveries. This requires good communication and organisational skills to ensure that incoming shipments are processed efficiently.

The Storeman will also receive shipments and sign the relevant paperwork upon receipt. Incoming packages must be unloaded from delivery trucks and inspected to ensure that the contents have not been damaged during transportation.

Receiving and Inspecting Deliveries

Accurate receiving procedures are essential to effective stores management.

The Storeman will be expected to verify incoming packages against purchase orders and invoices, checking important details such as:

  • Quantity.
  • Quality.
  • Price.
  • Product or item specifications.
  • Condition of delivered goods.

If an error or discrepancy is identified, the Storeman may be required to contact the supplier or shipper to resolve the issue.

Where shipments are found to be unsatisfactory, the successful candidate will be responsible for arranging the return of the affected goods or receiving suitable replacements.

This requires attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate documentation throughout the receiving process.

Labelling and Storage of Materials

Another important responsibility will be ensuring that deliveries are correctly labelled and allocated to their designated storage locations.

Proper labelling and organisation make it easier to identify and retrieve materials when required. This is particularly important in mining and industrial environments, where stores may contain a wide range of equipment, components, consumables and other operational materials.

The Storeman should therefore have excellent organisational abilities and a systematic approach to warehouse management.

Safety Responsibilities

Safety will be an important part of the Storeman’s daily responsibilities.

The successful candidate must adhere to applicable safety protocols when receiving, unloading, inspecting and storing materials. This includes following safe procedures when working around delivery vehicles, warehouse equipment and forklifts.

The requirement for a Forklift Operator’s Certificate – D indicates that candidates should have the necessary training and certification to operate a forklift as required by the role.

Applicants should demonstrate a strong commitment to workplace safety and responsible handling of materials and equipment.

Team Management

In addition to warehouse and stores duties, the successful candidate should have the ability to manage team members.

This means the Storeman may be required to coordinate or supervise other employees involved in stores and receiving activities. Good communication, leadership and organisational skills will therefore be valuable.

The ability to maintain productivity while ensuring that team members follow established safety and operational procedures will be an important aspect of the role.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate for the Ivanplats Storeman position will be an organised and reliable individual with practical warehouse or stores experience.

A strong candidate should have:

  • Grade 12.
  • A valid driver’s licence.
  • A valid Forklift Operator’s Certificate – D.
  • At least two years’ relevant experience.
  • Warehouse or stores experience.
  • Mining industry experience, preferably.
  • Intermediate MS Office skills.
  • Good basic mathematical and recording abilities.
  • Strong organisational skills.
  • Good communication and service delivery skills.
  • The ability to work effectively with suppliers, procurement personnel and other team members.
  • The ability to manage or coordinate team members.
  • A strong understanding of workplace safety.
