About the Role
The Apprentice Mechanical will assist qualified artisans with the installation, maintenance, servicing, and repair of machinery and equipment while gaining valuable practical experience. The role provides exposure to preventative maintenance, breakdown repairs, fault finding, and mechanical systems used within a production environment.
Successful candidates will receive guidance and mentorship from experienced professionals while developing the skills and knowledge necessary to progress within the engineering field.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Assisting with the installation and assembly of mechanical machinery and equipment.
- Supporting preventative maintenance activities on machines and mechanical systems.
- Assisting artisans and technicians during machine breakdowns and repairs.
- Helping dismantle, repair, and reassemble mechanical components.
- Using engineering tools such as spanners, grinders, drills, and measuring instruments.
- Conducting basic inspections to identify wear, damage, or mechanical faults.
- Reading and interpreting technical drawings and mechanical diagrams.
- Assisting with the lubrication and maintenance of gears, bearings, pumps, conveyors, and motors.
- Maintaining clean and safe work areas in line with workplace standards.
- Adhering to all health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Supporting operational efficiency through effective maintenance practices.
Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this apprenticeship, applicants must have:
- Grade 12 (Matric).
- Mathematics and Physical Science (recommended).
- N2 to N6 Mechanical Engineering qualification.
- Basic understanding of mechanical systems and engineering tools.
- Ability to work within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Willingness to learn and develop technical skills.
