Komatsu South Africa is seeking a qualified and experienced Artisan Electrician to join its Sishen operations in Kathu. About the Role
As an Artisan Electrician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability and performance of heavy earthmoving equipment used in mining operations. You will be responsible for conducting inspections, diagnosing faults, performing repairs, carrying out preventative maintenance, and supporting equipment overhauls.
The position involves working closely with supervisors, planners, and other maintenance personnel to ensure equipment availability, minimise downtime, and maintain high levels of operational efficiency.

Minimum Qualifications
To be considered for this opportunity, applicants must possess:
- Qualified Electrician Trade Certificate
- Grade 12, N3 Technical Certificate, or equivalent qualification
- Valid driver’s licence
- Relevant electrical trade certification recognised in South Africa
Experience Requirements
Applicants must have:
- A minimum of three years’ post-trade experience
- Proven experience working on heavy earthmoving equipment
- Previous mining industry experience
- Practical experience in equipment maintenance and repairs
- Experience with machine diagnostics and fault-finding
Candidates with extensive experience on Komatsu mining equipment will have an added advantage.

Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will perform a wide range of maintenance and repair activities, including:
Equipment Inspections
- Conduct visual inspections of machinery and equipment
- Identify damage, defects, leaks, wear, corrosion, and missing components
- Monitor machine health and operational performance
- Download and analyse machine data where required
- Inspect electrical systems and components for faults
- Collect samples such as oil and coolant for analysis
- Report abnormalities and equipment defects
Fault Finding and Diagnostics
- Conduct systematic fault-finding procedures
- Gather information relating to equipment breakdowns
- Use diagnostic tools, gauges, multimeters, and testing equipment
- Compare actual readings against manufacturer specifications
- Identify electrical and mechanical abnormalities
- Recommend repair solutions based on findings
- Obtain technical support for complex diagnostic challenges
Maintenance and Repairs
- Perform electrical repairs and maintenance on mining equipment
- Test, adjust, replace, and repair faulty components
- Execute planned maintenance activities
- Carry out equipment servicing according to company standards
- Clean and maintain equipment and machine components
- Support machine overhauls and rebuilds
- Perform basic welding repairs where required
- Assist with equipment commissioning and change-outs
Equipment Servicing
- Plan and prepare for scheduled maintenance activities
- Ensure required tools, parts, and resources are available
- Obtain consumables and replacement components through approved procedures
- Execute preventative maintenance tasks
- Conduct post-service inspections and testing
- Return unused stock and consumables to stores
- Complete all service documentation and reports accurately
Equipment Overhauls
- Participate in major machine rebuilds and component overhauls
- Follow approved overhaul procedures
- Inspect completed work for quality and compliance
- Compile overhaul reports and technical feedback
- Complete commissioning reports and warranty documentation
