Purpose of the Role
The purpose of the Maintenance Artisan – Diesel Mechanic role is to ensure the effective servicing, maintenance, and repair of all diesel-powered vehicles and agricultural machinery used across production operations.
The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining high mechanical standards, reducing downtime, and ensuring all vehicles comply with road safety and operational requirements.
The role also involves supervising maintenance activities, training staff where necessary, and maintaining proper service records and inspection documentation.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants interested in this position must meet the following requirements:
- Qualified Trade Tested Diesel Mechanic or Motor Mechanic
- Valid Code 10 driver’s licence
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years’ post-trade experience as a mechanic or technician
- Experience working at a dealership, workshop, or service centre will be advantageous
- Experience repairing and servicing tractors, TLBs, and vehicles
- Supervisory experience and ability to manage a team
Candidates should also have strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure.
Key Responsibilities
Successful candidates will be responsible for a variety of fleet maintenance and repair duties, including:
- Diagnosing, servicing, and repairing diesel-powered vehicles and machinery
- Maintaining HDV and LDV vehicles, tractors, and TLB equipment
- Conducting routine inspections and preventative maintenance
- Preparing and managing vehicles for Certificate of Fitness (COF) requirements
- Monitoring driver behaviour and fuel usage
- Maintaining vehicle roadworthiness and fleet presentation standards
- Performing welding and mechanical repair work when required
- Carrying out servicing, oil changes, filter replacements, and lubrication tasks
- Replacing brake discs, brake pads, drums, and brake shoes
- Completing coolant flushes and engine flushes
- Managing vehicle logbooks and maintenance records
- Ensuring licence renewals are completed before expiry dates
- Responding to emergency breakdowns and standby call-outs
- Training and guiding company employees where required
The successful candidate will also assist in maintaining maintenance documentation, inspection reports, and operational records.
