An opportunity is available for a qualified Artisan Electrical Lines and Servitudes professional to join a transmission network operations environment based in Northam within the North West province. This role is focused on ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of power line infrastructure through inspections, maintenance, and restoration activities. The successful candidate will contribute directly to maintaining the integrity of transmission lines and supporting continuous electricity supply to customers and stakeholders.
The position requires hands-on technical expertise combined with a strong commitment to safety, environmental compliance, and operational excellence. The Artisan will work under supervision while performing essential fieldwork, including line inspections, servitude maintenance, and defect repairs. The role also involves participating in emergency response efforts during power outages and assisting in restoring network functionality as quickly and safely as possible.
This position forms part of the Lines and Servitudes department within the Northern Grid business unit and is classified at Task Grade T09. It is well suited for individuals with a background in electrical trade work who are comfortable working in physically demanding environments and at heights, often under varying weather conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct routine power line inspections to identify faults, damage, and risks
- Perform servitude maintenance, including vegetation control and clearance
- Carry out hardware repairs and defect corrections on transmission lines
- Assist with line fault investigations and troubleshooting processes
- Support emergency restoration operations during outages and network failures
- Ensure strict compliance with health, safety, and environmental policies (OHS)
- Operate, inspect, and maintain tools, equipment, and machinery
- Maintain accurate reporting and documentation of maintenance activities
- Build and sustain positive customer and stakeholder relationships

Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
- Trade Certificate in Electrical (Light Current or Heavy Current)
- NQF Level 4 qualification with a minimum of 120 credits
Experience
- At least 2 years’ experience within NTCSA network or related environment
- Practical experience in Lines and Servitudes maintenance and operations
- Exposure to transmission line inspections and equipment handling
Working Conditions and Environment
