Minopex is hiring an Engineering Assistant for its West Coast Plant Operations in Saldanha Bay. This role is ideal for entry-level candidates looking to build a career in mining engineering. The position focuses on assisting qualified artisans with maintenance tasks while completing a structured learnership programme to develop into a qualified Engineering Artisan.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist artisans and supervisors with engineering maintenance tasks
- Participate in a structured learnership and training programme
- Support dismantling, assembling, and installation of equipment
- Handle tools, materials, and components safely and effectively
- Assist during breakdowns and maintenance operations
- Perform general housekeeping duties in the plant
- Observe and report issues such as equipment faults, leaks, or fire risks
- Work under supervision to gain practical technical experience
Minimum Requirements
Education
- Grade 12 with Mathematics and Science OR
- N2 / NCV Level 4 with relevant engineering subjects, depending on trade:
- Electrician
- Fitter & Machining
- Plater Welder
- Millwright
Advantageous
- Valid driver’s licence
Experience and Skills
- At least 1 year of mining industry experience (preferred)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work under pressure
- Teamwork and independent working ability
- Technical aptitude and willingness to learn
- Good time management skills
- English proficiency
