Job Overview
The South African Bank Note Company (SABN) is seeking a skilled Assistant Maintenance Electrician to support plant maintenance operations within a high-precision manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will assist qualified artisans and technicians in maintaining optimal equipment availability by performing preventive, corrective, and breakdown maintenance, while ensuring strict compliance with Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) standards.
Key Responsibilities
• Assist artisans and technicians with electrical maintenance and repair activities in accordance with approved standards and procedures.
• Support the execution of preventive maintenance schedules to minimise plant downtime and improve equipment reliability.
• Ensure the availability and proper use of tools, spares, and maintenance resources.
• Perform housekeeping duties in workshops and designated work areas to maintain a safe and efficient environment.
• Execute minor electrical projects under the supervision of a qualified artisan or technician.
• Identify, report, and help mitigate safety hazards and operational risks in line with SHE policies.
• Conduct electrical repairs and component replacements to restore equipment to normal operation.
• Participate in root cause analysis by providing accurate fault information and assisting with corrective actions.
• Comply with all electrical safety regulations, procedures, and best workmanship practices.
Minimum Requirements
• Grade 12 (Matric)
• Electrical Trade Test Certificate
• 3–5 years’ experience in an Assistant Maintenance Electrical or similar role within a manufacturing or industrial environment
Knowledge & Skills
• Basic to intermediate electrical fault-finding and troubleshooting skills
• Understanding of PLCs, VSDs, electric motors, and industrial electrical components
• Ability to remove, fit, and replace electrical components under supervision
• Hands-on experience with workshop tools and machinery (grinders, drill press, pipe benders, etc.)
• Strong awareness of occupational health and safety standards
• Ability to work effectively in a team-based maintenance environment
