About the Role
Cummins Inc. is looking for a talented Apprentice – Engine Workshop Technician to join the Service team at Exxaro Grootegeluk Mine, Lephalale. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in engine maintenance and repair while developing a long-term career in the engineering field.
Key Responsibilities
As an Apprentice Workshop Technician, your role will include:
• Assisting with day-to-day workshop operations to ensure efficiency.
• Disassembling, cleaning, and inspecting equipment while maintaining a safe and organized workspace.
• Learning standard repair times (SRTs) and performing basic repairs and maintenance.
• Supporting accurate record-keeping with job cards, time sheets, and documentation.
• Following Health, Safety & Environmental procedures and reporting incidents.
• Cleaning and maintaining workshop tools and equipment.
• Completing structured training programs aligned with business and technical requirements.
What We’re Looking For
• Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical repair.
• Ability to troubleshoot issues using diagnostic tools and software.
• Commitment to safety and compliance with company policies.
• A valid motor vehicle driver’s license.
Qualifications
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
Option 1: Matric + Nated Engineering Certificates (N3 – N6)
• Matric (NSC) with Grade 12, plus:
• N3: Mathematics, Engineering Science, Engineering Drawing, Diesel/Motor Trade Theory, or Mechanotechnology.
• N4: Mathematics, Engineering Science, Mechanical Draughting, Mechanotechnics.
• N6: Four subjects such as Mathematics, Fluid Mechanics, Power Machines, Physics, Strength of Materials, Supervisory Management.
Option 2: Matric + NCV Level 4 (TVET College)
• Matric (NSC) with Grade 12, plus NCV Level 4 in:
• Engineering Processes
• Professional Engineering Practice
• Applied Engineering Technology
• Automotive Repair & Maintenance
• Mathematics, English First Language, Life Skills, and Computer Literacy.
Option 3: NCV Level 4 (TVET College)
• NCV Level 4 with relevant engineering and technical subjects as listed above.
