Job Purpose

The TMM Operator Assistant plays a key supporting role in underground production operations by assisting Trackless Mobile Machinery (TMM) operators such as Drill Rig Operators, Roofbolter Operators, and LHD Operators. The assistant ensures safe, effective, and compliant equipment handling and contributes to smooth production processes.

Minimum Requirements

Educational Qualifications:

• Grade 10 / Standard 8 Certificate

• Valid Code 08 (B) Driver’s Licence

Experience:

• Successful completion of a relevant, approved mining training programme

• Minimum 3 months of practical experience in one or more of the following roles:

• Drill Rig Operator

• LHD (Load Haul Dump) Operator

• Roofbolter Operator

• Prior experience in an underground mining environment is essential

Key Responsibilities

• Provide operational support to TMM operators to ensure compliance with standard operating procedures

• Assist in setting up machinery, suspending trailing cables, and installing lifter tubes and pumps in operational panels

• Relieve TMM operators (Rig, LHD, Bolter) during breaks or absences

• Operate and control mechanical equipment under supervision (Atlas, Sandvik, Boart Roofbolters)

• Assist during bolting operations with barring, trailing cable management, and fault reporting

• Conduct pre-shift inspections to ensure safety and readiness of equipment

• Follow proper lock-out procedures for faulty machinery and report issues to Supervisors

• Perform basic maintenance such as greasing and replacing consumables

• Ensure proper care and use of equipment according to manufacturer guidelines

Additional Requirements

• Certified and competent to operate Trackless Mobile Machinery (TMM)

• Medically fit as per the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) 29/1996

• Willingness to work underground in physically demanding conditions

• Alignment with Dwarsrivier Chrome Mine Values and safety culture
