Job Description
Are you passionate about mechanical work and eager to start your career as a Mechanical Fitter Apprentice? Join AECI Property Services in Umbogintwini for this exciting apprenticeship opportunity in KwaZulu-Natal.
Key responsibilities:
- Acquire knowledge and skills relevant to your designated trade as a Mechanical Fitter Apprentice.
- Participate in the formal training plan for the apprenticeship and make progress toward achieving all required competencies.
- Attend necessary training sessions and assessments related to the training plan. (Includes Shukela Training Centre with 60 days training block each year.)
- Maintain and produce your training record (logbook) when requested by the employer or training organisation.
- Acknowledge that all workplace instructions and training materials remain the property of the employer.
- Maintain, repair, and perform scheduled maintenance on plant equipment such as:
- Pumps
- Centrifuges
- Steam traps
- Steam reticulation equipment
- Work effectively with others to complete maintenance activities and objectives.
- Adhere strictly to Health, Safety, and Environmental procedures, regulations, and guidelines.
- Take proactive action to identify and correct potential unsafe conditions and acts.
- Assist Fitters in carrying out daily routine maintenance in various AECI Property Services plants and support during breakdowns.
- Assist the Maintenance Fitter assigned to Standby Duty during the second year of the apprenticeship program.
- Use power tools and hand tools efficiently and safely.
- Comply with AECI safety standards and codes of practice.
Qualifications & Experience
Minimum requirements:
- Matric / Grade 12 with Mathematics and Science.
- N3 qualification (required to apply for Trade Test).
- Driver’s license (beneficial).
- Basic understanding of process plants and the importance of maintenance.
- Must be able to obtain health clearance for work in a chemical environment.
- Mechanical experience is advantageous.
- Experience using hand and power tools is beneficial.
