DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY (JMPD)
METROPOLITAN POLICE OFFICER TRAINING PROGRAMME
The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) is launching a comprehensive training programme. Successful applicants will undergo intensive training with the opportunity to be appointed as Metropolitan Police Officers.
REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must:
• Be South African citizens.
• Hold a valid Senior Certificate (Grade 12/NQF Level 4 equivalent).
• Reside within the jurisdiction of the Johannesburg Metropolitan area (original proof of residence required).
• Have no criminal record or convictions.
• Consent to biometric data collection for criminal checks.
• Possess a valid Driver’s License (Code B or higher – no learner’s license).
• Be aged between 18 and 35 years.
• Be physically and mentally fit (submit a Comprehensive Medical Certificate).
• Be able to undergo and pass a pre-training fitness assessment.
• Have no civil judgments related to fraud and/or corruption.
• Be willing to undergo vetting processes.
• Be proficient in English.
• Have no objection to carrying a firearm and wearing a uniform.
PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES
Candidates should be:
• Reliable and honest.
• Demonstrate a strong sense of justice and integrity.
• Positive in attitude, patient, and able to work under pressure.
• Willing to work in all weather conditions and on shifts.
TERMS OF TRAINING
• The training programme will last 18 months.
• Successful trainees will be considered for appointment as Metropolitan Police Officers upon completion.
• Trainees will enter into a training contract, subject to JMPD Academy rules and the RTMC training policy.
• A stipend will be paid in accordance with the City’s policy.
UPON COMPLETION OF TRAINING
Graduates will:
• Take the official oath of office.
• Be deployed to any region within the City of Johannesburg.
