Minimum Requirements
To be eligible, you must:
• Be aged between 18 and 34
• Hold a Grade 12 (Matric) certificate
• Be a permanent resident of Cape Town
• Be unemployed (students & EPWP staff may apply)
• Be proficient in English and at least one other official language
• Be physically and medically fit to undergo strenuous training
• Have no criminal record
• Hold a valid driver’s licence (manual, code B)
• Have no visible tattoos when wearing the service uniform
Training Overview
Successful candidates will:
• Be trained at the Public Safety Training College
• Complete a Further Education and Training Certificate: Road Traffic Law Enforcement
• Finish a Law Enforcement Skills Programme (SP4/2012)
Fitness Assessment Requirements
Candidates must pass a series of physical fitness tests, including:
• 2.4 km run (Males: under 11 min | Females: under 13 min)
• Push-ups and sit-ups (30 in 60 seconds)
• 100m dead load carry (2 x 25kg weights)
• Tyre drag, shuttle runs, 2.1m wall climb
• Motorcycle reach and unassisted swimming test
Note: Pregnant applicants are not permitted to take part in physical assessments.
Additional Conditions
• Must pass a written test, interview, driver and drug assessments
• Subject to fingerprinting and criminal checks
• Must comply with training regulations, wear uniforms, and work rotating shifts
• Should be prepared to work in all weather conditions and any part of Cape Town
• Must undergo regular physical and psychological assessments
• Must not have been previously dismissed from government employment due to misconduct
