Description
This advert is ONLY for matriculants. Another opportunity will open in August and September for all applicants.
The apprenticeship is a 3-year in-service training program, leading to a qualification as a Tractor Mechanic or Earthmoving Mechanic.
• First 6 months: Probation period to assess suitability for a long-term commitment. Either party may withdraw without consequences.
• After probation: A binding contract with AFGRI begins, and actual training starts.
Training includes:
• Attendance at a Practical Training Institute (if required)
• Enrollment for N-level subjects at a college via distance learning (if available)
• Saturday class attendance may be required
• On-the-job product training from John Deere, other suppliers, and AFGRI specialists
Important Notes:
• Training costs are covered if passed.
• Failed training must be redone at the apprentice’s own cost and time.
• The apprenticeship is a 3-year contract.
• Early withdrawal or failure to complete the “work-back period” may result in costs being charged.
• The contract cannot exceed 4 years; if not qualified within this time, the contract expires.
Apprentice Duties:
• Train as a Tractor or Earthmoving Mechanic/Technician
• Perform repairs and maintenance
• Manage stock control
• Provide customer service
• Assist with general workplace duties
Requirements
Minimum Requirements:
• Valid driver’s license
• Communication, administrative, and computer skills
Academic Qualifications (One of the following must be met):
1. N2 Subjects:
• Mathematics
• Engineering Science
• Diesel Trade Theory
• One of the following:
• Industrial Electronics
• Engineering/Technical Drawing
• Motor Trade Theory
OR
2. Matric Certificate with passed subjects:
• Mathematics (not Mathematical Literacy)
• Technical Mathematics (not Mathematical Literacy)
• Physical Science
• Technical Science
• Engineering Graphics and Design
If you don’t yet have the N2, AFGRI may sponsor your Further Education and Training as part of the program.

Assessment & Application
• The application will take approximately 60 minutes
• The screening and assessment process may take 30 minutes
