Job Purpose
The eThekwini Municipality is seeking a highly disciplined and experienced Security Officer to coordinate and manage security operations in the Durban Central area. This role involves safeguarding municipal buildings, property, personnel, and the public, while overseeing the performance and conduct of security teams.
Key Responsibilities
• Protect council buildings, installations, assets, personnel, and public on municipal property.
• Manage and supervise the conduct and performance of subordinate security personnel.
• Compile and submit all required administrative documentation for the division.
• Liaise with internal and external departments, stakeholders, and agencies on security matters.
• Ensure the safety of municipal assets and oversee security at shooting ranges.
• Perform emergency standby duties and deputise when required.
• Enforce access, egress, and loss control measures in line with operational procedures.
• Conduct and oversee specific escort security duties.
• Ensure operational discipline and compliance on each shift.
Essential Requirements
• Education: Diploma (NQF Level 6) in Police, Military, Security, or Law Enforcement
• Experience: Minimum 4 years in security management, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role
• Certifications:
• Valid PSIRA Grade A certificate
• Valid Firearm Competency (Handgun, Rifle or Shotgun)
• Valid First Aid Level 2 certificate
• Peace Officer Certificate (or must be obtained within 1 year of appointment)
• Other: Valid Driver’s License, Computer Literacy
Preferred Qualifications & Experience
• Degree (NQF Level 7) in Police, Military, Security, or Law Enforcement
• 5 years’ experience in a security management role, with at least 3 years at supervisory level
