Job Purpose
We are seeking an Engineering / Artisan Assistant to support Boilermakers, Fitters, Millwrights, and Diesel Mechanics in daily maintenance tasks. This role is ideal for candidates with experience in mining or construction environments, looking to enhance their technical skills and gain hands-on experience in equipment maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance Support
• Assist Artisans in predictive and preventive maintenance activities.
• Help with repairing, assembling, and stripping machinery using various tools.
• React promptly to equipment breakdowns.
• Clean and maintain machine components as per Artisan instructions.
• Ensure all tools and equipment are accounted for and properly maintained.
Safety & Compliance
• Follow SHEQ standards, policies, and procedures.
• Maintain a clean and organized workshop environment.
• Ensure the safekeeping of tools and equipment.
Inspection & Reporting
• Conduct daily inspections of tools and equipment.
• Report faults and mechanical issues to Artisans.
• Complete tasks as per job cards and adhere to maintenance schedules.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
• Grade 12 (Matric) with Mathematics & Physical Science (50% pass), OR
• N3 Engineering Studies.
Experience & Skills
• 2 – 4 years’ experience as an Engineering / Artisan Assistant in mining or construction.
• Knowledge of hydraulics, lubrication, mechanical seals, and pump/motor alignment.
• Basic experience with hand tools, diesel engines, assembly, and disassembly.
• Willingness to work overtime and weekends when required.
