Position Summary

In this role, you will be responsible for installing and maintaining engineering equipment in first-class working condition. You’ll ensure the efficient, safe operation of machinery by repairing and adjusting equipment within allowable tolerances. All work must conform to legal, statutory, and internal standards in all areas of engineering, quality, safety, health, and the environment. Additional responsibilities include fault finding, attending to breakdowns, completing administrative tasks (AMM, SHE, PMO), and actively participating in new project installations and TPM initiatives.
A Day in the Life of a Fitter
• Carry out the planned maintenance required on plant.
• Be proactive and prevent breakdowns on patrols, showing initiative to improve equipment performance continuously.
• Install, service, repair, and maintain existing and new equipment.
• Follow up and recommend actions to overcome and improve problems encountered.
• Attend to mechanical faults and breakdowns in all areas of the factory.
• Analyze, investigate, and eliminate recurrent faults.
• Improve functional maintenance, cleaning, and reliability of equipment.
• Manage minor projects and contractors in Industrial Services.
• Gain plant knowledge and operate all industrial services equipment.
• Ensure repairs are carried out quickly, efficiently, and correctly on the first attempt.
• Maintain a high standard of work.
• Ensure machine reliability and availability to meet production targets.
• Work shifts, standby, and overtime as per company requirements.
• Follow lockout and permit procedures to ensure safety.
• Address any dangerous conditions immediately.
• Correct and update errors on technical drawings.
• Complete administrative tasks for AMM, SHE, and PMO.
• Actively participate in projects and TPM activities.
• Interact effectively with production teams, suppliers, and contractors.
What Will Make You Successful?
• Grade 12 (Maths and Science) and Fitter Trade Test.
• 2-3 years of experience as a Fitter, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, including hydraulics, pneumatics, and rotating equipment.
• Skilled in using precision tools, machining equipment, and hand tools.
• Proficient in reading and interpreting technical drawings, diagrams, and manuals.
• Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical faults effectively.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Awareness of safety and quality standards.
